Etcher is very fast in that regard, offering one of the quickest ways of creating a bootable flash drive or sd drive. However, creating a boot image does not imply copying the image to the Flash drive, but rather using specialized software that can create that boot medium using the given installation image.Įnter balenaEtcher, a small but handy application that's used for creating boot mediums for installing various operating systems (such as Windows 10). Most users choose Flash drives since they are very accessible and easy to store and carry around. Installing the newest version of Windows or any operating system often requires you to have the boot medium to install from. I also opened an issue ( #3088) on the github site.BalenaEtcher: Burn images of your OS to any removable drive Neither the installed version or the portable version worked so I started this thread. When it failed, I downloaded it again, compared MD5sums, and also downloaded the portable version. I believe I had used it successfully some months ago but I could not find the icon to start it, so I downloaded 1.5.79, uninstalled 1.5.56, installed 1.5.79 and attempted to use it. When I started today, version 1.5.56 was installed on my system. No window, task manager shows 3 Background processes labeled “balenaEtcher” and one Background process labeled “Flash OS images to SD cards and USB drives, safely and easily.
